I had an issue deleting some things from my trash on my iMac.during the process with Apple support they reverted me back to a Time Machine backup from about 12 hrs ago. Doing so (for some #$^#& reason) pulled away all of my account data in all apps, all logins to apps/browsers, etc. One of the most important things that I have lost was my 'On my computer' folders within Outlook for Mac 2016. It also forced me to build a whole new profile but I have no idea how to import/locate those files/folders that are now missing. Hide 'On My Computer' folders is not checked.
I also added a Gmail account and that inbox/sent items/etc are not visible in my accounts pane on the left side. Anyone have any ideas? Hi Dary, According to your description, I understand the “On My Computer” disappeared even though the option is not checked. Regarding the inbox/sent items disappear, I have tried reproduce the unexpected behavior from my side, but no luck.
All default folders, like “All Mail” folder, “Sent Mail” folder are visible. To better understand your situation, I’d like to collect the following information:. The detailed version of your Outlook for Mac 2016 client and the OS. Search emails in the Outlook for Mac 2016 client to check if you can find any emails that is from the “On My Computer” folder. What kind of accounts did you configure to the Outlook for Mac 2016 client? And how did you configure your accounts (include Gmail account) in client, via IMAP, POP3 or Exchange?.
About the backup in Time Machine, did you stop automatically archiving Outlook items? To check it, please click System Preferences under Apple menu Time Machine Options, check if there is any file path. Thanks, Gary.
I'm not in front of my computer for the next 36 hrs but want to get back to you with some info. I'm running Sierra 10.12.1(it could be 2 but pretty sure it's 1) and the most current version of Outlook for Mac 2016. Emails do exist on my exchange server that I had copied over to On My Computer folders but there ware approximately 1500 of them and going back to locate them simply isn't realistic. After I had restored from my TM back, Outlook tried to repair but was unsuccessful so I had to create a new profile and add back my exchange account as well as a Gmail account (it autodetected and created IMAP) re: archiving.
I had never touched a setting about archiving before this change. I can certainly check that tomorrow afternoon. The biggest thing is the missing emails/folders that were On My Computer at the bottom of my Outlook window on the left. Is there any way to import them by referencing a file contained on my iMac? Thanks for your help.
Hi Dary, Thanks for your quick reply. About the unexpected behavior, I want to do some tests form my side. Can you provide the information below?. The detailed version of your Outlook for Mac 2016. To get it, please open your Outlook for Mac client go to Outlook menu and choose About Outlook. In the dialog box that opens, the version number appears in the middle (Office for Mac 2016).
The screenshot of the Outlook for Mac 2016 window. What kind of the exchange account is, an on-premises Exchange account or Office 365 Exchange Online account? Thanks, Gary. Hi Dary, Thanks for your screenshot. I notice all the emails in “On My Computer” folder disappear, not the folder disappears. Given the situation, I’d like to confirm whether you have exported the emails in “On My Computer” to “.olm” file before the Apple support reverted the data from Time Machine backup.

If yes, you can click File Import to import the email data file “.olm” to your Outlook for Mac client (the items will appear under the On My Computer folder list in the left). If not, from my experience, there is no other ways to revert the emails to your “On My Computer” folder back. Thanks, Gary.
